Once every sixty years, the Horse and the element of Fire converge in the Chinese zodiac. 2026 is one such year. This called for giving the Fire Horse a towering presence on our mural wall at West-Kruiskade in Rotterdam.
In Chinese culture, the Horse symbolizes strength, independence, and the ability to set things and people in motion. The element of Fire amplifies these qualities. It is a meaningful image for this specific location, situated in a part of Rotterdam where the Chinese community has been an integral part of the neighborhood for generations.
The wall at West-Kruiskade is one of the sites managed by MooieMuur for hand-painted advertising. Here, brands can temporarily become part of the Rotterdam streetscape with a commercial mural.
However, once a campaign period ends, the next chapter begins for us. We always combine commercial murals with art for the community. Following a campaign, the wall is repainted with an independent artwork that resonates with the location and the people who live there.
The Fire Horse is a prime example of this. After the previous campaign concluded, we deliberately chose an artwork with a direct connection to West-Kruiskade. Instead of leaving the space blank between campaigns, we created a mural for everyone who lives, works, or passes through the area.
The next campaign could once again transform this wall. MooieMuur manages the entire process of hand-painted advertising, from translating campaign imagery for the wall to the actual execution.
