The recognizable style of Roy Valk—better known as Karski—is typically found on massive walls or in vibrant paintings. Through a collaboration with the clothing brand REELL, his art has found a new medium: apparel. The abstract shapes, layered structures, and bold colors that define his work have been translated into prints, making his art literally wearable.
Karski’s artistic journey began on the streets. As a young boy, he would accompany his cousin while he painted graffiti, acting as a lookout. What started as an exciting adventure evolved into an international career as an artist. The spontaneity and curiosity from those early years remain evident in his work today.
In his own studio, Roy experiments with acrylic paint, various materials, and diverse painting techniques. A key element in his process is the "double exposure" technique: abstract underlying layers remain visible beneath portraits and other imagery, resulting in striking color combinations and textures. The shapes he once used to fill the spaces between graffiti letters have since become a signature component of his personal style.
For REELL, this layering takes on a new application. The textures of the canvas, the paint, and the various materials converge into prints on fabric—giving his art a new form without compromising its original character.
For Karski, art is not solely about the final result; it is equally about the process of experimenting with materials, colors, and techniques. Some pieces come together quickly, while others require multiple attempts before everything falls into place.
This same approach serves as the foundation for his collaboration with REELL. An encounter between street art and fashion, in which his recognizable visual language moves beyond the studio—and off the wall—to reach a new audience.
